One of the most stunning parts of a well-constructed and installed staircase is each spindle's precision placement, and each fine line seamlessly presented.

We work with a wide selection of wood. Traditionally, Oak and Maple have been the go-to wood for stairs. Over the years, things have been changing with homeowners and builders. We've had requests for varieties like Cherry and Walnut, which is welcome because we love to work with different wood and see the unique characteristics.

Hardwood Handrail and Spindles [Balusters]

Density and toughness are of less importance when selecting a handrail. Since most railings have no foot traffic, dogs, or skateboards, a wider variety of wood is available compared to treads. Often handrails are picked to match the tread and surrounding floor; we can also modify colours to meet today's trends. Spindles can be fabricated or purchased as stock items.

Hardwood Stair Tread and Risers

While it may seem that the selection of treads is never-ending, we're happy to advise you about the ideal wood for the area and the colour to match. Tread risers come in prefinished white or a custom finish. One way to quickly reference the durability of your stair tread is the Janka Hardness Scale.
